The Best Safelists for February 2011

Hello and welcome to February!

I don’t know about you but it’s weather like this makes me glad I work from home.

I have some big changes to announce this month but first I want to shine a light on one of the better safelist related launches that took place last month.  It’s a site called “The Traffic Button” and it was released by Mike Purvis who is best known for creating The List Auction, Viral Ad Store, and Traffic ZipperThe Traffic Button is a series of free training modules which will show you how to get the most out of advertising with free viral list builders (such as the ones Mike owns).  There is definitely some good content here and well worth the time to check it out.

I also released a new edition of my popular ebook Safelist Marketing Tactics.  Nothing major.  I just wanted to make sure the content is current and still relevant to marketing with safelist and viral list builders into 2011.

Ok, the big announcement… my tracking script died!

Yep.  I was doing some routine maintenance on the database and for some unknown reason the script will now no longer recognize the tracking cookies used to tell me when people click my splash page and when they join my program.

So now I am tracking all of my links exclusively with TE Toolbox!

The bad news is that I lost all of my data from before January 13th.

The good news is that the new trackers are working great.

Since I made such a major change in the way I track my links I also decided to take this opportunity to make some changes in the way I have been promoting.  Before I was promoting splash pages and tracking how many people clicked my ads and how many people ultimately joined my program.

I decided that instead of promoting the usual splash pages that I am now going to promote a squeeze page instead and track how many people subscribe to my list through that page.

Here is the page I am promoting:
http://safelisttactics.com/squeeze/?rid=1

That page is available to all upgraded members of Safelist Marketing Tactics if you would also like to use it to build your list.

The results?

Since January 13th I have tracked 208 new subscribers to my list from promoting that page exclusively through safelists and viral list builders.

Wow!

Which safelists and viral list builders worked the best?

As always I would like to point out that these stats are a result of my own marketing efforts and your results may differ.  I also have upgraded memberships on most of the safelists and viral list builders listed below which normally produces better results.

Enough of that… here’s what worked best for me:

Hits Unique Subscribers Ratio
State of the Art Mailer 3,407 71% 35 1.03%
Adchiever 1,635 70% 20 1.22%
Quick List Profits 611 65% 18 2.95%
Global Safelist 1,191 38% 14 1.18%
Viral Ad Store 694 67% 12 1.73%
List Effects 405 65% 11 2.72%
The Lead Magnet 660 68% 10 1.52%
AdTactics 2,667 29% 9 0.34%
The List Auction 543 65% 9 1.66%
AdsolutionLine 1,845 42% 7 0.38%
Elite Safelist 1,695 38% 7 0.41%

Not bad for only half of January.

As usual, if you are not already a member of State of the Art Mailer… oh boy are you missing out!

Adchiever also continues to rock.

I am really impressed this month by Quick List Profits.  While this is still one of the newer viral list builders the conversion ratio is the best on the list.  I don’t know what Kym Robinson is doing over there but it’s definitely working!

That’s all for this month.

Keep your eyes peeled on Feb 13th for a brand new viral list builder launch that is definitely going to make some big waves.  Also be back here next month to see what kind of results I get from a full month of building my list with safelists and viral list builders.

The Best Safelists for December 2010

Welcome to December!

Lots of stuff happened last month so let’s jump right into it.

Darren Olander launched Adchiever at the beginning of November.  This was probably one of the biggest launches i’ve seen so far for a new safelist/viral list builder.  The site opened with a pre-launch with the mailer scheduled to open a week later.  Unfortunately some technical problems kept the mailer from opening on time but it did eventually open.

Adchiever has a bunch of cool features to keep it’s members active.  Now that the mailer is open I am receiving 200+ emails a day which is a lot but the results have been worth it.  As you can see from the stats below even with only 2-3 weeks of mailings Adchiever is performing right up there with the best mailers.  If you are not a member yet this is definitely one to join.

Another new launch was Stefan Berg’s The Lead Magnet.  This one got off to a much slower start.  We just hit 1,000 members (1,001 right now) and opened the mailer last night.  I love what Stefan has done with this site and expect this to show some good results on my stats next month.

I wrote a review last month about a new software product called Safelist Genie.  Unfortunately my review wasn’t very positive.  I could probably make a lot of money by promoting this software but given the version I tested I could not recommend it to my readers in good conscience.  The good news is that the creator was responsive to my suggestions so hopefully I will be able to give it a second look soon. Safelist Genie is free for 15-days so if you want to try it for yourself be my guest.

There’s a new mailer coming soon from the creators of Sweeva. It’s still being developed and I am not supposed to talk about it yet so you didn’t hear it from me.  Shhh!

Ok, let’s get to the stats!

The stats you see below are my own tracking stats for several splash pages that I am rotating at various safelists and viral list builders.  I am upgraded in most of these sites and try to do the maximum daily mailings so please take that into consideration when deciding which sites to join.

“Clicks” is how many people viewed my splash page.  “Action” is how many people clicked the link on my splash page to go to the main site.  “Sales” is how many people joined my site.  CTA and CTS are “clicks to action” and “clicks to sale”.  I ranked these safelists by sales but it is also important to look at the other numbers to determine how responsive each safelist really is.

Go Quick List Profits! Definitely didn’t expect to see this one at the top of the list but this program is kicking butt.  This is a brand new program from my friend Kym Robinson.  If you’re not a member of Quick List Profits yet get in there now!

List Joe always rocks.  No surprise there.

And a big welcome to AdchieverAdchiever didn’t open until just a few weeks ago but this site is already delivering as promised.  I can’t wait to see how many sign-ups I get this month.

I guess that’s gonna do it for this month.

Of course I always like to point out these are my own personal stats and there are lot of different factors that go into getting these sign-ups.  Obviously your results may vary.  I provide this information as a guide for you to try out new safelists and viral list builders.  The only way to know which sites work best for you is to track your own ads.  You can get a free link tracker from TEToolbox.

Ponzi Scheme Frustrations

Hello again!

Sorry I haven’t been updating my blog as often as I would like.  I’m still around, I just haven’t had much time to write.

But today I am ready to rant!

Yep, welcome back!

So, lately I have been spending way too much time on Sweeva.  Frankly, i’m addicted.  Whatever.  In case you live under a rock Sweeva is a social marketing site / traffic exchange.  So by using it you are not only getting your site seen by other marketers but you are also getting to know a lot of other marketers socially who are promoting their own sites.

I guess recently it has really started to bug me to see how many talented Internet marketers I know are out there promoting illegal pyramid and ponzi schemes.

I know.  These programs have been around even longer than I have.   It’s not like I haven’t seen hundreds of them come and go over the years.  But it’s interesting now to finally see the faces and talk to the people who are promoting these programs in a social environment such as Sweeva.

Ok, for the record i’m no angel.  I’ve been known to bend a few laws in my time.  If I am in a hurry I might go a few mph over the speed limit.  I probably play the stereo in my car louder than I should and I might even admit to having a few mp3s on my computer that I didn’t pay for.  Hey, I’m like a modern day Jesse James.

Let’s be realistic here.  The police probably aren’t going to break your door down and haul you off to jail for promoting an affiliate link that might not be entirely legal, but does that mean you should do it?

As long as nobody gets hurt, right?

Wrong.

People do get hurt.

Money doesn’t just magically appear.

No program pays out more than it takes in.

The only way for you to make money in these programs is for other people to lose money.  Your success can only come from someone else’s failure.

Am I the only one bothered by that?

No, i’m not a lawyer or a judge.  I can’t pass absolute legal judgment over every site out there.  But if you are not selling a product or service and the only thing you are offering people is a money making opportunity then chances are it’s either an illegal pyramid scheme or an illegal ponzi scheme.

What’s that?  You program offers a product or service?  I guess that makes it legit, right?

Of course it does!

In fact, Bernie Madoff would be a free man right now if he had only thought to provide his clients with some ebooks and a rotating banner ad on his blog.

You can dress it up anyway you like.  If people are spending money on these things with the goal of making more money back then slapping on a worthless product or ad credits isn’t going to make them any more legit.

It’s frustrating to me though because sometimes I just want to grab these people and tell them what they are doing is wrong… but I can’t.  Who am I to tell them what they should or should not promote?  Right?

Look, if you have the money and you want to gamble it on one of these programs I don’t really care.  Maybe you’ll get lucky and eventually make a profit.  Congratulations on your wise business investment.

My problem is with the program owners and the people who use these programs to prey on newbies who don’t know any better.  The people who only care about making money and don’t care where it’s coming from.  To me that is more than just breaking the law… it’s just wrong.

The Best Safelists for May 2010

Hello and welcome to my latest posting where I attempt to rank the top safelists and viral listbuilders based on my own stats from the previous month.

Before getting into the rankings I like to go over some of the major events in the safelist world which happened during the last month.  Unfortunately, there aren’t any.  No major launches to speak of.  No big changes.  ViralAdStore changed their graphics to make them a little brighter but that’s about it.

I did cut back a little bit last month from some of the smaller exchanges that haven’t been producing well enough for me.  I also either canceled my upgraded memberships or downgraded to a less expensive membership on some of the safelists that weren’t bringing me enough sign-ups to justify the price of an upgrade.  I usually estimate that each sign-up I get to my list is worth about $1.00 so if I am spending $20/month on an upgrade and only getting 4 or 5 sign-ups, it’s probably not worth it.

One thing I started doing last month that I hadn’t been doing much before is taking advantage of safelists that allow you to send more than 1 ad per day.  This usually requires being an upgraded member and spending more time clicking for credits but it has allowed me to diversify a bit and send out a wider variety of ads.  So far the two best I have found for sending multiple ads are Elite Safelist and European Safelist.  Both of these sites are well worth the price for the upgrade.

I also tried out a few newer safelists that launched over the last few months.  The results were poor at best.  Maybe I will try them again in a few months if they are able to attract a few new members.  For now it’s better to stick with the safelists that have been around for awhile and are proven to work.

Ok, stats time!  All of these numbers are a result of advertising my video splash page for Safelist Marketing Tactics.

As we can see List Effects continues to stay on top however it’s not dominating quite as much as it had been over the last few months.  It will be interesting to see if it can continue to stay on top next month.

ViralAdStore has climbed back to the top of the list after having dropped quite a few places over the last few months.  Maybe those new graphics are working for them after all.

No other real big surprises but it is nice to see Adsolutionline and Global Safelist back on the list again.

Once again I want to remind everyone that these are my own personal stats from promoting my own personal splash pages.  These stats are only meant to be a guide to help you choose which safelists and viral listbuilders to use.  Your results will probably be different from my own but the only way to know for sure which sites work best for you is to track your own results.  You can get a free link tracker from TEToolbox.
